Set up the Shopify app in 20 minutes — step by step

    In short

Install Teleship Global Shipping from the Shopify App Store, create your account, and complete the six settings screens in order — Shipper details, Compliance, Dispatch time, Packaging, Billing, Checkout rates. The video version is at the Getting Started video; the same steps in text follow.

Step 0 — Install the app

    1. Open apps.shopify.com/teleship-cross-border-delivery and click Install. The app is free; you pay per parcel.
    2. Shopify asks you to grant permissions: orders (to build customs declarations and calculate duties), products (HS codes, weights, origin), fulfilments (to write back tracking), customers (delivery address and contact), Shopify Functions and custom data (for checkout rates). All are required for the app to work.
    3. In the Shopify admin left column, pin the app so it's one click away.
    4. Click Create account. Use the email that should receive shipping notifications and invoices.

Part 1 — Shipper details (Settings → Shipper details)

    • EORI number — mandatory (see Who can use Teleship — eligibility and what to have ready).
    • Company registration number — from Companies House.
    • UK VAT number — optional.
    • EU IOSS number — optional. Leave blank and Teleship uses its own IOSS for EU orders under €150; above €150 IOSS does not apply and Teleship acts as Merchant of Record (see IOSS and Merchant of Record for EU orders).
    • Dispatch address: the address Royal Mail collects from / DHL picks up from. It also appears as the exporter on the commercial invoice.
    • Click Save.

Part 2 — Compliance A short list of trade and customs statements (you export lawfully, goods are not prohibited, values and descriptions are accurate, you are the exporter of record, etc.). Read each one and tick to acknowledge. Questions → compliance@teleship.com. Save.

    Part 3 — Dispatch time

    • Tell us how long you take between buying a label and handing the parcel to Royal Mail/DHL. This is added to the lane transit time to produce the estimated delivery date your customer sees at checkout and on tracking.
    • Start conservative: 1–2 days. If you ship same day, enter hours (minimum 2). You can tighten it later once you know your rhythm. Save.

    Part 4 — Packaging

    • Add every box or mailer format you use: name, length × width × height (cm), and its empty weight including void fill. Teleship adds the product weights at label time to get the total.
    • Add as many as you like; you can still change the package and its weight on each label.
    • Mark one as default. It is used when an order has no product-specific package (see Packaging configuration and how billable weight works — this matters for what your customer is charged). Save.

    Part 5 — Billing

    • Add a credit or debit card (Visa, Mastercard, Amex). When you buy a label the amount is held on the card and captured once the parcel gets its first carrier scan; cancelling the label releases the hold (see Pricing, fees, and how you pay).
    • Optional: top-up balance if you buy labels in bulk — one charge instead of hundreds, refundable if unused. Larger accounts can ask about other payment methods (hello@teleship.com).
    • Wait for the card to validate, then Save.

Part 6 — Customer checkout rates (needs Shopify Grow on annual billing, Advanced, or Plus — third-party carrier-calculated rates)

    • Choose which services to offer at checkout — Teleship DDP Tracked, USPS Postal DDP, and the DHL Express services — and how the shipping cost is shown to your customer: pass-through (exact price), fixed fee per destination/zone, subsidised (pass-through minus an offset), or free shipping above a basket value.
    • Optional handling fee (fixed or %) to cover packaging or multi-box orders.
    • Choose whether the Teleship rate returned to Shopify includes duties and taxes (default — one line for the customer, collected at cost with no mark-up) or excludes them so that Shopify's own duties tool collects them instead.
    • Then in Shopify: Settings → Shipping and delivery → Shipping → your profile → Shipping zones → Add rate → Use carrier or app to calculate rates → Teleship (Rates provided by app) and tick the services you want to offer (see Shopify checkout: live rates and duties/taxes at checkout for the exact steps and the Basic-plan alternative). Save.

You land on Orders, which lists every international order eligible for Teleship. You're ready to ship — go to Your first label: buy, print, pack, dispatch.

On Shopify Basic? Skip Part 6, set a flat international rate in Shopify, and turn on Shopify's duties & import taxes collection. You still buy DDP labels from the app per order. Details in Shopify checkout: live rates and duties/taxes at checkout.
